Liposuction in Bloomington, IL
What is Liposuction?
Sometimes despite diet and exercise, patients still have those persistent trouble areas. Liposuction is a very nice technique to debulk these areas with minimal scarring and downtime. Not every patient is a candidate for the liposuction procedure because if there is excess skin, some sort of excisional surgery is often necessary. Dr. Tattini takes great care to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of liposuction with patients at his office in Bloomington, Illinois.

Dr. Tattini’s Liposuction Technique
Dr. Tattini uses a liposuction technique termed SAFE Lipo. This technique has been shown to help improve results in a more consistent manner with fewer risks, such as over/under correction, contour deformities, etc. He uses a special cannula to separate the adipose tissue in the fuller areas first, then he aspirates using different cannulas, and finally does a fat equalization maneuver with specialized cannulas. This liposuction technique is very new and has been shown to be superior to other more traditional techniques.
The system Dr. Tattini uses is the Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) device. This device is relatively new and involves a special machine/cannula that oscillates back and forth. This allows Dr. Tattini to produce a quicker, less traumatic, and more precise result. This is a very common and safe device used for liposuction throughout the nation. It can be used all over the body where patients want a debulking/sculpting procedure. Dr. Tattini has been using this device for 5 years and liposuction has become one of his most common operations.

What Is The Difference Between Liposuction and a Tummy Tuck?
Liposuction reduces bulk like an abdominoplasty, but it doesn’t remove excess skin or tighten abdominal muscles like an abdominoplasty can. Therefore, if someone has excess skin with slot of stretch marks or loose muscles as a result of multiple and/or large pregnancies, an abdominoplasty would probably be better.

Recovery after Liposuction
After liposuction, patients tend to experience mild swelling, bruising and discomfort in the treated area. Patients are given compression garments to wear that help reduce these symptoms as they heal.
How Long Will I Need To Recover After Liposuction?
Since liposuction doesn’t involve slot of tissue dissection, Laing incisions, or muscle the downtime can be less than many other procedures. Depending on how many areas are treated and how much fat is removed, downtime can be from 1-2 weeks to 2-3. Patients can most likely expect to wear a compression garment but no drains and minimal wound care is needed. Patients usually feel comfortable enough to go back to work after a few days of rest. Exercise should be avoided for a few weeks
What Are The Risks of Liposuction?
Risks associated with liposuction surgery include:
- Loose or rippled skin
- Worsening of cellulite
- Contour irregularities
- Pigmentation irregularities
When large amounts of fat are removed through liposuction, surgery to remove excess skin may be needed.
